Description: The mysterious 5,000-Year-Old Beehive Tombs of Oman are the most celebrated prehistoric sites in the country and even though they are part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, nobody really knows a great deal about them. They are called tombs but no human remains have ever been discovered and are a true mystery of ancient history. In this mini ancient history documentary, I introduce these bizarre and fascinating structures and discuss their original function. Maybe they were tombs as experts say, and they have simply been looted in their entirety and the human remains scavenged by animals. But maybe they had another function altogether. Maybe they were food storage structures, or sleeping quarters for workers in the fields and mines. In this video we take a closer look.
